favorite day thus far....

Krabi town
so, i wasnt going to spend a long time in Krabi town bc there isnt much to do/see in the actual town. but i met this aussie guy, jarod on the bus ride from the ferry to town and we decided to rent motor bikes the next day and visit all the cool sights outside of town. what an AWESOME day! it was nice to have some freedom for the first time in 2 1/2 months! we visited the hotspring pools, an 11 tier waterfall in the national park, and the tiger temple. the sights were amazing but it was the adventure driving around the countryside that made the day so special!
yours truely and my pink motor bike. it was a little touch and go at the begining of the day...3 mini spills-one very embarassing one in the middle of a big intersection..oopps!(mom-im fine...just a couple of scrapes) but i was a pro come the end of the day...but having a motor bike was prob on of the best experiences i have had since being away. it allowed me to not rely on the bus to see the countryside and to go where i pleased...all for just $150bht per day (5bucks!) i am sure to be renting one again!
the first stop of the day was at the hotsprings. it was about an hour drive from krabi town and boy was that an adventure. it was a two lane main highway and the trucks and cars and traffic basically pass whenever they want. luckily the motorbikes have their own lane...ie the shoulder of the road. it was a little unnerving at first but after a while it was quite fun!
the hotsprings were really cool and not very touristy...more thais were there then westerners. what i thought was neat was that the water made natural hot tube like pools and seats within the pools for the visitors to sit in.

the last waterfall we saw for the day... it was quite the hike but so worth it!

during the heat of the day jarod and i went to the national park near krabi town to visit the 11 tier waterfall. it was amazing. there were huge cascading waterfalls that fell into cool pools of water, great for swimming in. we only saw about 5 of these waterfall/pool combos bc we were so preoccupied with swimming in every pool. but this picture was taken on the highest waterfall we hiked to...the higher you hiked the less people there were and we had this pool all to ourselves along! the water was so refreshing in the 30degree(97degree) heat.

so we drove around on motor bikes all day and it sure was a funny and exciting way to get around. throughout the day we had to dodge people, tuk tuks, other motorbikes driving ont he wrong side of the road, trucks, chickens, tons of stray dogs, cats, lizards, cows and horses. there really isnt any room to day dream when your driving in thailand.

the bottom of the steps to the tiger temple. we hiked up 1,237 steps to reach the top but it was sure worth it! some of the steps were straight up, more like ladders. and at one points as i was struggling up the steps i looked up and there sitting on a step right in front of me was a grey monkey...i kinda yelped in surprise to see a monkey just sitting in my path and i think the scream scared him and he scurried off. but honestly, i never thought i would in my life ever look up and see a monkey in my path!

atop the tiger temple at sunset with a storm rolling. it was a good thing there was a storm coming bc it made the temple more amazing bc it wasnt streaming with tourists. we had the temple to ourselves apart from the two buddist monks sitting under the temple, escaping the storm.

part of the tiger temple

what an awesome end to a great day! the storm made the tiger temple more surreal. jarod and i waited out the storm under the temple watching the lighting and drinking fanta. the storm was happening all around us but for some odd reason it never really hit the temple??

after a long climb back down the 1000+ steps in the dark...jarod and i found out motor bikes, dried the seats and started on our journey back to krabi town. when we were leaving the temple, a stray dog came chasing us out of nowhere. it jumped infront of our motor bikes and sat there crying for food. we made a dash for it and scooted around the dog but it took off chasing us down the street. It chased us for probably 3k's and that dang dog was speedy...proby running at about 60km/h! We had to stop at a traffic light and we turned around and there enough was the stray dog on our tails. He ran across the busy busy street with us and tried to keep up but we made too many turns for him to follow....it made for a really random end to a great day!
next stop...Railay bay to do some rock climbing!

I would love you forever AND I think that it would look fantastic in our new house. Ok longest comment ever! Love ya!

I was so surprised to have new pictures on your blog. It sounded like a wonderful adventure and fun to share it with someone. See if Jarod wants to join you for some more adventures. Thanks for texting dad your travel plans. Keep doing that so we know where you are. Love and miss you, MOM

I hate to say it but it looks like you have more "adventures" when you get off the beaten track but you have to be careful, who's this Jarod guy? Next thing you'll know you'll be riding a Harley! keep the pictures coming.Love Dad

Kristen... I am Troy's friend, Shane. Hopefully you might remember me. Randomly your URL was on my History list, probably b/c Troy was keeping tabs on your travels. I just checked it out. It made me sick to my stomach. But in a good way. The kind of I-just-returned-from-3-months-in-India-and-want-to-be-back-out-there-living-the-dream kind of sickness. I have been to several of the places you have been. In fact, some photos from Thailand are the SAME f*ing photos I took, it's so awesome to see them again. It reminds me why I'm so sad to be back in Chicago. Your quote on your homepage hit me like a ton of bricks; until you feel the world, it's impossible to understand the meaning behind it. I am so jealous of you it's ridiculous. But I've had my fair share and I will keep tabs on you now for sure. As somebody who feels his only ambition in life is to see the world, I'm so happy you are living the dream. Life moves pretty fast... If you don't stop and slow down once in awhile, You might just miss it. You are in sync right now with who you are and the pace of life, no better place to be.
