San Cristobal was our first stop in Mexico. It took us 14hours to get there but it was sure worth it. San Cristobal is in the state of Chiapas which is the poorest state in Mexico (its in the south of Mexico close to Guatemala). We spent two of the days walking around and taking pictures of all the colorful buildings and visiting the many cool churches and two days taking trips, one to a near by canyon where we saw monkeys and one to Palenque where we heard howling monkeys (and saw a toucan).
We def didn't participate much in the touristy Mexico most Americans see which was a nice relief :)

Brad and I decided to forgo the tours and venture to Palenque on our own (so that we would have more than 2hours to see the whole site). It made for a long day (leaving at 6am and getting back to San Cristobal at 10:30-5.5 hour bus ride both ways). Because we went on our own we wandered away from the touristy path and got to see a toucan (sorry i forgot to put the pic on the blog), other less visited ruins, and a cool waterfall.
Sandra was nice enough to drive the four of us to the cute town of Taxco. It is an world heritage site and every new building has to be built in the same style and with the same type of materials which is pretty cool bc then the whole town looks the same. It was fun just walking around the curvy/hilly roads and getting lost.
We all went out for a last night in Mexico before Mel left the next day. We ordered a set menu of 6 different types of meat for tacos (delicious), chips and salsa, and 24 drinks (all cervaza) for 10 bucks each.
Brad had a "surprise" birthday celebration from restaurant which ended costing us 9dollars for the cake!!! who charges for birthday cake? outrageous.
me after taking my free shot of tequila...the waiter shoot my head uncontrollably after I downed the shot. (i won a dice game at the restaurant)
photo opp after 24 cervaza's (granted Brad and Martyn drank most of them)
