5 brave souls and I (25 opted out) decided to hike the Tongariro Crossing, a 8 hour hike through the mountains. We experienced rain, straight up mountain/rock climbs, volcanic desolate areas, rain forests, grasslands, lakes, beautiful landscapes, gusts of wind that almost blew us over, once in a while rays of sun, and achy legs and backs. All in all it was a great day and we were so glad we decided to take the chance and go for the adventure!
the sign before we left....
by a waterfall at the beginning of our hike
we only hiked up to that ridge on the left but man was it a hike! from 800ft to 5,400 ft!
we were basically walking on a couple of dormant volcanos that could erupt at any sec...ahhhh!
(where he ran before getting to the gates of Mt. Doom)
the view of where the "gates to mordoor" (sp?) were in the Lord of the Rings

My first opportunity to see a blog,be on a blog and comment on a blog. Kristin, you have a predominate Heil gene of adventure. All of your uncles enjoyed doing the fun things in life, hi adventure, crazy, just being wild and loose. Everything I've seen in your blog points to the fact that thing are good, you are safe for the time being, and adventure is certainly tops on your list. My your journey continue to be fun and safe. Uncle Richard and Maureen, Meghan, Ryan and Michael. Meghan would like to be with you...actually so would all of us. Check out the "All Blacks" the #one Rugby team in the world. They are in NZ. Ryan and Mike buy anything from with the "All Black" its big in the rugby world. Take care, enjoy, be safe!

well Kristen it looks like you're getting some comments, the only thing is you had to jump out of an airplane and walk across a "active" volcano to get a reaction. Don't try anything more adventuresome. How about a picture of you laying in a hammock soaking up the sun? Love Dad
Where's Frodo? Did you see him? I want to see a picture of my pal!
Have I ever told you how cool you are? You are SUPER cool!
Come back home Already!!!!
Go you! You are one brave girl. Looks like you are having a great time. Don't stay gone too long. Everyone misses you (especially your other half)!
Have some fun for the rest of us.
Well, I guess my dad beat me too it but I wish I could be in NZ to see the All Blacks. Anyway, my mildly exciting college experience is nothing compared to a trip round the world but I'm trying to make the most of it. I'm so jealous right now (I had a immunology & microbiology test yesterday and I have 2 more next week)I'd rather travel the world then stuck in Toledo, believe me if you only knew! Good luck and stay safe. -Ryan

Your pictures are amazing and I just wanted to tell you that I am EXTREMELY jealous of you right now. You look like you're having the time of your life. Miss you lots and be careful over there!!! hugs and kisses and F4F!!! LOVE YOU.
